Jean’s leading driver and motivator for writing ‘Unlock the Secrets to Boosting Productivity’ has fundamentally come from two places. Her insight, knowledge, experience, and understanding of working in corporate environments for 20 years, and the challenges that come with that for people. This, combined with compassion and concern in terms of how people are being impacted now, and into the future as a result of Covid-19, has greatly influenced her.
Often people experience a gap between their productivity output and the desired results they achieve. All too often, peoples’ great intentions get hijacked and are not aligning with the results they wish to achieve daily. Many people may be accepting of that. That this is ‘part and parcel’ of the ‘busyness’ of their daily working lives and the environments they belong to. These same environments are riddled with interruptions and distractions. Be it working from home, or in the office, this can be experienced in high volumes for people. They may well have the attitude that this is the norm, and it is simply how it is. For others, it will be having a severe impact on how they feel about themselves and their ability to maintain and sustain productivity levels. All too often, people can suffer from ‘productivity shame’, as their self-esteem, and sense of worth is attached to their performance output.
Worry and uncertainty creep in, and so does the element of self-doubt and self-belief in ones’ capabilities. This leads to niggling fears, not looking forward to departmental update meetings, or dreading performance reviews. An underlying fear often exists that peoples’ jobs are potentially at risk. A constant feeling of needing to prove themselves has people operating from a place of fear and uncertainty. This can play a key role in people experiencing imposter syndrome, or worrying about their overall status, and how they show up and appear in other peoples’ eyes.
In other instances, you may consider yourself to be currently quite productive and happy enough with your performance output. However, you may be curious and open to exploring the potential of elevating your productivity skills and overall effectiveness. In my experience, career-minded people, and high achievers have a natural hunger to accelerate their skills to get to the next level on the career ladder. They welcome opportunities to invest in themselves, gearing up for promotions. For others, they simply want to stay on top of their game, and on track. This is particularly the case with increasing work demands, often expected to do more with less, and with quicker turn arounds expected. It has never been a better time to hone and nurture your productivity skills.
In any area where we are looking to make improvements and adjustments, fundamentally, we are looking at what behaviours and habits we can bridge gaps in, to create our desired results. To achieve that we need to look at what the potential barriers are, and where the blind spots occur. To help with that, Jean takes a deep dive in her book at what ‘halts and interrupts’ the ‘activity space’ in our daily productivity, and how we can get ahead of that.
A little consistent investment in ourselves daily will massively support ‘working smarter, not harder’! This same investment in ourselves, enables our self-management skills, our coping strategies, and reduces the level of stress we are experiencing in our ‘whole-systems’ and ‘state of being’ in general. To enable consistency, producing quality work, and resilience, we need to ‘tool-up’ to support our evolving environments and our sustainability.
Jean’s e-book is a way of reaching out to people with helpful resources in sharing practical models, tools, tips, and insights geared at encouraging people to ‘tool-up’. This isto foster, and maintain healthy mindset skills around ‘productivity’, to support resilience, adaptability, sustainability, and courage. It is promoting mental health and people to stay positive, focused, and motivated, even when that is being tested.
Jean delivers compelling evidence, backed up with research, and neuroscience on how to ‘work smarter, not harder’ to bridge to your future career success.
